Guide to Bacolod City

Bacolod has always been a romantic city to me, what with it’s glorious hedonistic past especially at the height of the sugar industry. I always equate Bacolod with mestizas and mestizos, of decadent pastries, of luxurious stews, and an old dilapidated train that used to carry sugar from one hacienda to another. That dilapidated train used to be the major attraction of the Negros Museum. Now, a decade after since my first visit, the museum has improved and it has unmasked the City of Smiles.

An Afternoon in Silay and Talisay

Last year, my sister and her family and Joel and I went to Bacolod. There was no particular itinerary except to eat good food and probably let Elijah, my four-year old nephew, enjoy. Our trip was Friday to Saturday. That Friday, before The White Hotel allowed us to check in, we went to The Negros Museum and The Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation. The Saturday, we went to the Negros Farmers’ Weekend Market and had nothing to do after. We wanted to go back to the hotel to see if their resident tour car is still available so we could do some sightseeing. So we hailed a taxi.
