Except when you are Cebuana blogger, Kryz Uy, level, there is no need for you to do an elaborate, often expensive, maternity shoot here in Cebu City. Joel and I have assisted some of our friends with their maternity shoots — they were fun, they were not staged, and they were not expensive. Here are my tips for a simple and cheap maternity shoot in Cebu City:

Tip # 1: Use your home as your maternity shoot location
I have not been pregnant before but many women who went through pregnancy have told me how uncomfortable going around places. Most would want to just lie down in bed. Of course who would not be uncomfortable when you are carrying a human being inside you, right?
The most comfortable maternity shoot location we’ve done in Cebu was at our friend’s bedroom. Even when you have a tiny room (which they had at that time), that will still work for as long as there is natural light or you have a ring light. For our other friend, we did the photoshoot at a room at the Quest Hotel.
Tip #2: Wear comfortable clothes
You don’t have to bare your pregnant belly during your maternity shoot. You don’t have to pose sexy and do buodoir-style during your maternity shoot. You don’t have to throw away your Roman Catholic Cebuana upbringing just to go with the hype of bare bellies and lingeries in maternity shoots.
Wear a shirt, wear a duster, wear leggings — wear what you want. You are after all capturing the moment as it is and not capturing the moment as staged. You don’t have to hire a stylist or buy new clothes that you probably won’t wear after you’ve given birth.
Tip #3: Involve your husband and your other children.
I understand that maternity comes from the word mater which means mother but the shoot need not just focus on the mother because we all know that pregnancy is a journey not only for you but also your husband and your other children (if you have). Involve them in the shoot because that is how pregnancy really is, everybody helps for the new baby.
In fact, I love the idea of the family doing household chores for the photoshoot, like a #dayinthelife style.
