Gabii sa Kabilin (Night of Heritage) is held every last Friday of the month of May in Cebu City and is organized by The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. Since the event started in 2006, I always try to be in the city to participate. I found that every year there are always new learnings and new experiences (like the bus system that will be used as the city’s public transportation).

Escolta: The Queen of Streets in Manila
Escolta was dubbed the “Queen of Streets” during the American occupation (around mid 1940s). Commerce was bustling and the architecture were modern, even featuring the first elevator-operated buildings.

Binondo is the world’s oldest Chinatown, with written records showing it was established in 1564. According to historians, as early as 1603, there were already 20,000 Chinese residents recorded in Manila (compared to barely 1,000 Spaniards). Pre-Spanish colonization, the Philippines was already trading with the Chinese as evidenced by the Chinese jars and ceramicware and influence in food dug up as archeaological finds.

Cebu City is the Queen City of the South and when you mention Cebu to most tourists, they would easily associate it with the same things: lechon, danggit, chorizo, Sinulog, Sto. Nino, and Magellan’s Cross. Cebu City is all that and more. To me, Cebu City is a cultured, historic, and artistic city where most people are educated and has a collective sense of duty to make their city a better place especially for the needy. The city of Talisay (not to be confused with Talisay City in Negros Occidental) borders Cebu City in the south, and is often overshadowed by Cebu City. Talisay is a historic city by its own right and, if you are a Cebuano, is equivalent to the best lechon in the province.
